Warrenton is the I-70 seat where exurban growth lands first
Warrenton and Wright City sit directly on I-70, so they absorb much of the county's commuter and exurban growth, which shapes city services, permits, and which government a resident actually deals with
Warrenton is Warren County’s seat and, with Wright City just to the east, sits right on Interstate 70, the spine that connects the county to the St. Louis metro about an hour east. That location is why the I-70 corridor has drawn much of the county’s commuter and exurban growth, while the southern tier toward the Missouri River stays more rural. For a resident the practical point is layered government: the city of Warrenton handles many permits and ordinances inside its limits, the county handles unincorporated areas, and school, fire, ambulance, and road districts overlay both. Before buying or building, confirm whether a parcel is inside a city or unincorporated, and which districts apply, then direct questions to the right body.
