Southwest Missouri
Lake Taneycomo is a coldwater trout fishery
Because cold water is released from Table Rock Dam, Lake Taneycomo supports trout and has its own fishing rules, a distinctive and durable feature of the county.
Lake Taneycomo’s cold water, released from deep in Table Rock Lake, makes it a trout fishery rather than a typical warm-water lake. Missouri stocks and manages trout here, and the Shepherd of the Hills Hatchery near the dam supports the fishery. Trout waters carry their own rules, on tackle, limits, and zones, that differ from bass fishing on Table Rock, so anglers should check the current regulations for the specific stretch. For the area it is a year-round draw and a good example of how a dam can change a fishery. The Department of Conservation is the source for seasons and rules.
