Taneycomo water can change with hydropower releases

MDC says the upper part of Lake Taneycomo is heavily influenced by hydropower releases, so anglers and boaters should check official water and generation sources.

Lake Taneycomo can look calm and still change quickly. MDC says the first part of the lake below Table Rock Dam is heavily influenced by hydropower releases. During heavy generation, that reach can have deep, swift-moving water. During non-generation, shallow pools and riffles can make boating difficult.

This is a normal tailwater issue, not a reason to avoid the lake. It is a reason to check before wading, launching, or planning a fishing trip near the dam.

Use MDC for fishing-area guidance and the Southwestern Power Administration for current-day generation schedules. Conditions and schedules can change, so treat this note as a pointer to the official sources, not as a live water report.
