The Building Division handles permits, inspections, and zoning enforcement

St. Louis City's Building Division is the front door for building permits, inspections, building-code enforcement, vacant-building demolition, and zoning enforcement.

A remodel, inspection record, vacant-building issue, or zoning complaint inside St. Louis City starts with the City’s Building Division. The same division enforces the building code, issues building permits, conducts inspections, demolishes vacant buildings, and enforces zoning ordinances.

That bundle can feel odd when a question begins as one small project. A permit search may lead to an inspection issue. A complaint may become a code question. A zoning question may need a different staff contact, but it still starts inside the same City building authority.

St. Louis City is its own local government for this work. A parcel in the City is not routed through St. Louis County for ordinary City building permits. Keep the question tied to the City Building Division first, then narrow it to permits, inspections, code enforcement, vacant buildings, or zoning from there.
