Lettered routes and gravel roads are normal here
Outside Savannah and the highway corridor, getting around Andrew County means lettered state routes and county gravel roads, and a road's status determines who maintains it.
Once you leave Savannah and the main highway, getting around Andrew County means lettered state routes and county gravel roads. Lettered routes are smaller state roads marked with letters, like Route A or Route H. If you are buying a place, ask one key question first: is the road to it kept up by the county, or is it private? That answer tells you who grades, plows, and fixes it, and whether you can count on getting in and out all year. In the river bottoms and the Nodaway bottoms, low spots and stream crossings can also flood after heavy rain. (“Bottoms” are the flat, low land along a river.) So check the road’s status with the county before you assume someone else takes care of it. And check MoDOT’s traveler information for state-route conditions and closures during winter weather or high water.
