The west edge sits in the Missouri River bottoms

Andrew County's western boundary is the Missouri River, and bottomland property there can fall in a mapped flood zone that affects insurance and building.

The west edge of Andrew County runs along the Missouri River. The low land near the river is called bottomland. It acts very differently from the higher ground around Savannah. So if you are buying land or a home near the river, ask a few key questions first. Is the parcel in a mapped floodplain? A floodplain is an area a map shows can flood. Will a lender make you buy flood insurance? And how high has past flooding reached here? To check an address against official flood zones, use the FEMA Flood Map Service Center. For local flood prep, and for any levee or drainage districts, contact Missouri SEMA and your county emergency-management office. Do not trust a seller’s word or a rough map. Pull the official flood map for that exact parcel before you decide a property is safe or at risk.
