Forsyth became the county seat at Swan Creek

Taney County's own history page explains why Forsyth, at the mouth of Swan Creek, became the county seat.

Forsyth helps explain Taney County beyond the Branson strip. The county history page says court proceedings were first held in private homes while possible county-seat sites were considered. In 1845, Forsyth, at the mouth of Swan Creek, was chosen as the county seat.

That old location still matters in a practical way. County offices, courts, and recorder or collector questions route back to Forsyth even when the best-known address in the county is Branson.

For a new resident, buyer, or visitor, this is the civic map: Branson may be the tourism center, but Forsyth is the county-seat anchor for many official county tasks.
