The James River feeds Table Rock Lake from Stone County
The James River is a major Ozark float and fishing stream that runs through Stone County into the upper end of Table Rock Lake, shaping recreation and water near Galena.
The James River is one of the Ozark streams that flows through Stone County and into the upper, western end of Table Rock Lake. Historically a float and smallmouth-fishing river, it passes near Galena, the county seat, before its valley widens into the lake’s James River arm. For residents and visitors the river is both a recreation asset and a reminder that, like other Ozark streams, its level can rise quickly after heavy rain and its public access depends on designated points rather than open banks. For fishing rules, species, and official access points, the Missouri Department of Conservation is the source; for the lake the river feeds, the Corps of Engineers manages the reservoir. Treat specific access points, outfitters, and any ‘best float’ descriptions as things to confirm rather than assume.
