The County municipal court is not every city court

St. Louis County Municipal Court handles ordinance cases for unincorporated County and certain municipalities, so the court name does not mean every city case is there.

St. Louis County has a municipal-court layer that can be easy to misread. The County says its Municipal Court hears cases involving alleged ordinance violations in unincorporated St. Louis County and in municipalities that use the County court.

That does not mean every city court case in the county goes to the County Municipal Court. Some municipalities run their own court path, and a citation should name the court or jurisdiction to use.

For a resident, the practical move is to check the ticket, the County Municipal Court page, and the County case-search page before calling the wrong clerk. In a county with many municipalities, the word “municipal” is not specific enough by itself.
