La Petite Gemme Prairie keeps a prairie remnant beside the trail

South of Bolivar, La Petite Gemme Prairie gives Polk County a small but very specific prairie-and-rail-trail landscape to understand.

La Petite Gemme Prairie is a Polk County color note with a map pin. The Missouri Department of Conservation lists the natural area in Polk County, gives its acreage as 37 acres, and places access south of Bolivar near the Frisco Highline Trail.

MDC says the prairie is one of the last prairie remnants in the Springfield-Bolivar region. It also says the Frisco Highline Trail enters the natural area at mile marker 32, making the old rail corridor part of how many people experience the site.

That is the local texture: Polk County has a prairie remnant tucked into a modern trail corridor, not just open pasture by a highway. Anyone visiting should use the MDC page for access, rules, and natural-area context before treating it like an ordinary city park.
