Platte County real property appeals have three steps
Platte County points property owners from an informal assessor review to the Board of Equalization, then to the State Tax Commission if needed.
A Platte County value dispute has to start before it becomes a payment argument. Real property is reassessed every two years, and the appeal path begins with the Assessor’s side of the courthouse, not the Collector.
The local route has three steps. First, contact or meet with an appraiser for an informal review and bring value evidence such as photos, sale information, or an appraisal. Second, if the disagreement remains, appeal to the Platte County Board of Equalization before the posted July deadline. Third, a taxpayer who disagrees with the BOE decision may appeal to the State Tax Commission by the state deadline.
Once the bill arrives, the Collector is collecting from the assessment already set. Start early enough to use the informal and BOE steps while they are still open.
