Tower Rock makes the Mississippi a local landmark, not just a boundary
Tower Rock Natural Area gives eastern Perry County a small but distinctive MDC site on the Mississippi River.
Tower Rock is a Perry County place marker that depends on the river itself. MDC describes Tower Rock Natural Area as a 32-acre forest tract on the Mississippi River, with most of the natural area on the Missouri bank.
The rock is separated from the rest of the area by the river and is accessible by boat. MDC also notes that very low readings on the Mississippi River Chester gauge can make it possible to walk out to the rock, while high water can make road access difficult.
For visitors, the point is not just “go see a rock.” Check the MDC page and river conditions, because Tower Rock’s local identity is tied to the Mississippi’s level and access.
