Fort Crowder Conservation Area carries Newton County's base story

MDC says Fort Crowder Conservation Area in southern Newton County was once part of the World War II Camp Crowder Army Base.

Fort Crowder Conservation Area is one of Newton County’s strongest place-specific outdoor notes. MDC says the area is in southern Newton County and was once part of the old World War II Camp Crowder Army Base.

The official page says the U.S. Army selected the Neosho site because of its proximity to water, railroads, and highways. It also says visitors can still see foundations, fruit trees, open fields, and other remnants from farms purchased for the base.

Today the area is public land with multiuse trails, but the reader job is to use MDC’s current page for rules before visiting. The local texture is the old base layer under the woods and fields.
