Hunting, fishing, and conservation areas along the Mississippi corridor

Marion County's river corridor and floodplain support fishing, hunting, and conservation-area access, all governed by state permits and regulations.

Marion County sits along the Mississippi River, and the low, flat land near the water is its floodplain. That river and its quiet backwaters make the outdoors a big part of life here. People fish the river and hunt in season. The Missouri Department of Conservation runs the conservation areas, public access points, permits, and seasons in Missouri. A conservation area is public land set aside for nature and outdoor use. The department is the place to learn what you can do, where, and when. The rules and season dates change from year to year, so check them each season instead of guessing. If you boat or fish the Mississippi, watch the river stage (how high the water is) and the barge traffic, too. Before you head out, check with the Department of Conservation for current permits, season dates, and the areas and access points near the county.
