Madison County tax questions still route through Courthouse Square
Madison County residents should separate assessor and collector questions, even though both offices are listed at Fredericktown's Courthouse Square.
Fredericktown’s 1 Courthouse Square puts a lot of Madison County government at the same address. The assessor, collector, county clerk, recorder, treasurer, and commissioners are all listed there, so a tax errand can look simple from the outside.
Inside the errand, the office name still matters. A paid property-tax receipt comes from the county collector where the property is located and the tax was paid. A statement of non-assessment comes from the assessor when a person did not own or possess taxable personal property as of January 1.
The counter trip goes better when the job is named first. Value questions, personal-property listing questions, and non-assessment paperwork belong on the assessor side. Paid bills and receipts belong on the collector side. Courthouse Square is the place, but the first question is what kind of tax problem you are carrying through the door.
