Johnson County plate renewal may need a printable tax receipt

Johnson County's collector lets taxpayers search paid receipts online, which matters because Missouri plate renewal can require proof of personal property tax.

A Johnson County plate renewal can stall after the tax is already paid. Missouri renewal paperwork may require proof of personal property tax for the prior year, or two years for a two-year registration. The Collector’s online system lets taxpayers search for paid receipts, including personal property receipts.

The extra step is easy to miss after an online payment. Paying the bill and having a printable receipt for the license office are not quite the same task. If no receipt arrives by mail, go back to the Collector site and use the tax search.

Before the renewal deadline gets close, save or print the paid personal property receipt. It is a small paper step, but it can decide whether the plate errand finishes in one trip.
