Jefferson County's senior real-property credit is application-based

Jefferson County has a local senior real-property tax credit, but eligible homeowners still need to follow the Collector's application instructions.

Jefferson County’s Collector page says the Real Property Tax Credit for Seniors was enacted locally in 2024 under county ordinance. The page lists the basic checks: age, a Jefferson County home, legal ownership or interest, duty to pay the real-estate tax, and no past-due county real-estate taxes.

The reader job is paperwork. The county says people who apply and qualify receive a credit tied to the gap between the current homestead tax bill and the base-year bill. It also says the county will not mail applications.

For an older homeowner, this is a Collector check. It is not just a rumor about taxes being frozen. Use the county page for the current form, documents, and due date before assuming the credit will appear on its own.
