Greene County tax rates come from local subdivisions

Greene County's clerk tracks levy rates for school districts, cities, fire protection districts, and other special districts.

A Greene County property tax bill is an address-level stack, not one countywide rate. The County Clerk says the office tracks tax rates for real estate and personal property in the county’s political subdivisions, including school districts, cities, fire protection districts, and other special districts.

That is different from the Assessor’s job. The Assessor values the property. The levy rates are set by the local taxing authorities that apply to the property’s location, and those rates are multiplied by assessed value to estimate tax liability.

For a buyer comparing homes near Springfield, Republic, Willard, or an unincorporated area, this means the parcel’s district mix matters. Look up the exact tax district and levy list instead of assuming two similar houses in Greene County will carry the same bill.
