Springfield streets are not always County roads

Inside Springfield, street problems can belong to the City of Springfield rather than Greene County Highway.

A pothole on a Springfield street can send people in circles if they start with the county by habit. Springfield Street Operations handles city street work, and residents can use a report-a-concern path for potholes, street flooding, nuisance property, and other local issues.

Greene County Highway is a different lane. County-maintained roads, City of Springfield streets, and MoDOT routes do not all land on the same work list. After a storm, a hard freeze, or a flooding problem, the first useful question is who owns the road. City street, county road, and state route are three different answers.

Once the owner is clear, the report can go to the crew that can actually put it on a repair schedule.
