Dade County reaches the north end of Stockton Lake

Part of Dade County fronts the north end of Stockton Lake, a major Corps of Engineers reservoir, so lake access, shoreline use, and private dock permitting are real local concerns for waterfront property and recreation

The north end of Stockton Lake reaches into Dade County, putting a slice of an otherwise landlocked farming county onto one of southwest Missouri’s big reservoirs. Stockton is a federal lake: the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District, manages the reservoir, its shoreline, and the permits for private boat docks. That federal role is the key practical fact for anyone eyeing lake-area property at this end of the lake. Owning land that touches or sits near the water does not automatically grant a dock; private docks on Stockton require a Corps permit and must follow the district’s shoreline management rules, which govern what can be built and where. Before counting on a dock or shoreline use, confirm current permitting and shoreline rules with the Kansas City District rather than assuming, and treat any specific permit availability for a parcel as something to verify. State park and conservation accesses around the lake follow their own managers, so check who runs a given access point.
