Crawford County ATV use on county roads starts at the clerk

Crawford County's clerk page says operating an ATV, UTV, SXS, or other off-road vehicle on county roads requires a county permit.

A side-by-side on a county road is not just a trail question in Crawford County. Local permit rules run through the County Clerk when an ATV, UTV, SXS, or other off-road vehicle will be operated on county roads.

The permit is bought at the County Clerk’s office. Bring a valid driver’s license and proof of liability insurance for the vehicle, because those are part of the local permit step. The county permit is still only one layer. State law, city streets, and trail-area rules can all point in a different direction.

The practical move is to name the road first. If it is a Crawford County road, start with the clerk permit. If it is inside a city or on a separate trail system, the county permit may not answer the whole question.
