The Governor's Mansion is public history on the river bluff
The Missouri Governor's Mansion in Jefferson City is an official state residence and public-history site overlooking the Missouri River and Capitol.
The Missouri Governor’s Mansion makes Cole County’s capital identity visible at street level. The Mansion history page says it has been the official home of Missouri governors since 1872. It also says the building was finished in late December 1871.
The setting matters too. The Mansion sits on 10 acres above the Missouri River and the State Capitol. The official history page says the building is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and describes its Second Empire style.
For a visitor or new resident, this is a reminder that some Jefferson City landmarks are state history sites, not county offices. Use the Mansion’s official site for history, tour rules, security checks, and public access details.
