Clay County two-year plates need two tax years
Clay County vehicle owners renewing two-year plates should expect to show the previous two years of personal property tax receipts or a valid non-assessment statement.
A Clay County driver renewing two-year Missouri plates should not wait until the license office line to sort out tax receipts. The Missouri Department of Revenue says plate renewal needs proof of personal property tax for the previous year for a one-year registration, or the previous two years for a two-year registration. That proof can be a paid personal property tax receipt or a statement of non-assessment from the county where the owner lived.
Clay County says the same thing in its personal property FAQ: two-year tags require the two previous years’ receipts, and a receipt from another Missouri county may be needed if you were assessed somewhere else. The practical move is to find both years before you renew. If one year is missing, contact the Clay County collector for the receipt or the assessor for a non-assessment question.
