Conservation areas and Missouri River access in Carroll County

The Missouri River corridor and nearby conservation areas give Carroll County public land for fishing, hunting, and river access that residents and visitors can use under state rules.

In Carroll County, part of the Missouri River runs by, and there are conservation areas nearby. Conservation areas are public lands the state takes care of. On these lands you can fish, hunt, and put a boat in the water. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), the state office in charge of fish and wildlife, sets the rules. You often need a permit, and some activities are only allowed in certain seasons. These rules change, so check with the MDC before you go instead of trusting an old list. The Missouri River is a working shipping channel. It has strong currents and big barges, so it is not a calm lake for casual fun. The MDC website is the best place to learn which areas are in Carroll County, what you can do at each one, and the current permit and season rules. Look there for any closures first.
