Southeast Missouri / Lead Belt / Mississippi Corridor
Apple Creek Conservation Area is north of Cape on Route CC
Apple Creek Conservation Area gives northern Cape Girardeau County a public-land layer of creek frontage, wooded hills, bottomland forest, and MDC rules.
Apple Creek Conservation Area is a good reminder that Cape Girardeau County is not only Cape and Jackson. The Missouri Department of Conservation says the area is in northeast Cape Girardeau County, three miles east of New Wells on Route CC. MDC describes steep hills, narrow valleys, about 2.5 miles of Apple Creek frontage, upland oak-hickory forest, and some bottomland forest.
For a resident or land buyer, that is useful local geography. For a visitor, it is also an agency clue. Conservation-area rules, maps, hunting and fishing details, and area hours come from MDC.
Before using the area, check the MDC page and map. Chapter 11 of the Wildlife Code applies to MDC areas, so do not assume a conservation area works like a city park or a state park.
