County road questions start with Road and Bridge
Butler County's Road and Bridge Department maintains county roads and bridges, while state highways and city streets use other sources.
On a country road outside Poplar Bluff, the first question is not “Who is nearby?” It is “Who owns this road?” Butler County Road and Bridge handles construction and maintenance for county roads and bridges.
That does not cover every road in the county. A street inside a city may belong with city public works. A numbered or lettered route may belong with MoDOT. A county road, bridge, sign, or drainage problem belongs with Road and Bridge.
When reporting a problem, write down the road name, nearest crossroad, and whether the spot is inside city limits. For state-route closures or winter conditions, use MoDOT’s traveler map before assuming the county office is the right stop.
